Brooklyn Top Farming Borough

Today’s news that Brooklyn has more farms than any other borough should come as no surprise at all. Nor should the fact that the topic provides yet another opportunity to flog the old theme that newer, wealthier residents somehow aren’t as “real” has longer-term, poorer residents. “We aren’t here for the trendy residents,” Kendall Morrison, who manages The Secret Garden Farm in Bushwick. “We’re here for the neighborhood folks.” Better take out that nose ring before you try to buy your kale from Kendall!

I agree with you on the real lemons issue. Selling a jug of sugar, food color and water is just stupid. There are actually two young girls near me selling lemonade dressed in burrkas. they are quite cute and outgoing but I don’t drink sugared beverages. Also, I’m not sure if I’m contributing to the cultural center in a roundabout way.
Discuss.
I bet a kid who offers to regularly clean up people’s stoops / front yard areas on my block for a few bucks a pop would make really good money.
My first job was cleaning out the chicken coop (at the FARM) for a dollar a week. I remember thinking – holy shit I can make 52 dollars a year!!!
You know what pisses me off? Lemonade stands where the kid is basically putting zero effort into it and selling Crystal Lite for 50 cents, and you can tell they’re only doing it because their parents (who are right there on top of them the whole time) think it’s going to teach them a valuable life lesson and turn them into the next Bill Gates. I’ll pay good money (way over 50 cents) to a kid who works, saves up a few bucks, buys some lemons and really hustles will get my $$. Or even better, do something that’s actually useful, like come clean up my stoop for a few bucks.
If it were, somebody would try to unionize it.
this is super funny. wtf? “we don’t want those customers with money! no way! we’re just doing this farming thing because it’s so fun”.
A kid’s lemonade stand is not a lemonade factory.
Number of lemonade factories in Brooklyn = 0
bowl of dicks – I think he just came from a potato sack race at some local chrity event.
Kendall needs to pull up his sweatpants.
I agree with lecahacal. Besides, who are these people trying to kid??? They’re here to sell produce and make money because they can get a higher price doing that vs. selling it wholesale. BULLSHIT ALL AROUND.
