Brooklyn Top Farming Borough

Today’s news that Brooklyn has more farms than any other borough should come as no surprise at all. Nor should the fact that the topic provides yet another opportunity to flog the old theme that newer, wealthier residents somehow aren’t as “real” has longer-term, poorer residents. “We aren’t here for the trendy residents,” Kendall Morrison, who manages The Secret Garden Farm in Bushwick. “We’re here for the neighborhood folks.” Better take out that nose ring before you try to buy your kale from Kendall!
Brooklyn Has More Farms Than Other Boros [NY Daily News]
Hey I’m not busting on anyone for having a vegetable garden and selling some of their stuff for cash. I think that’s great. I’m busting on them for thinking that constitutes farming.
My family’s been growing vegetables in Brooklyn backyards for over 120 years. They never were so delusional that they would pretend it was farming.

Ms Morrison may not be operating a true “farm” but she is clearly a marketing genius;
There is actually no better way for her to attract the rich, “socially conscious” citizens to buy a bunch over overpriced tomatoes grown in polluted brooklyn soil, then by claiming contempt for them….Brilliant!
“Sounds like a Summer’s Eve or massengill commercial.”
really showing your age there dave….i think they stopped running those in the mid 80s.
i thought I was supposed to be the asshole around here….jeeeze, what is wrong with you people??? of course they are not “Farms” in the sense of a 1000 acre soybean mega farm in Iowa, but we are in BROOKLYN people…..you are OK talking about brownstones with “Yards” or “Outdoor space” which for most of the country would be considered pathetic and not worthy of the word….
i just don’t see what is so BULLSHIT about growing some veggies and selling them to local people??? why is there need for a sense of contempt for what they are doing???
