Since Hurricane Sandy and the creation of the Brooklyn Recovery Fund, the fund has raised $1 million, with donations still coming in. Support has come from individual donors online and via mobile, numerous fundraising events, and many more supporters. Walmart gave $25,000 donation and Greenlight Bookstore donated $2000. The Brooklyn Community Foundation also sent out two requests for proposals for nonprofits working to improve community-wide coordination efforts in coastal Brooklyn. Check out all those details here. If you’d like to donate $10, text BROOKLYN to 25383. And here are more ways to donate through the Brooklyn Recovery Fund.

- Junior’s Restaurant is donating $5 from the sale of each pumpkin cheesecake sold at all 3 New York locations to the fund through November.
- A Bell House Comedy benefit is scheduled for Nov. 25 featuring Eugene Mirman, Mike Birbiglia, Wyatt Cenac and Jon Glaser.
- The Brooklyn Flea and Smorg are collecting donations at each of their markets through the winter
- Edible Brooklyn’s “How to Holiday” event will benefit the fund.
- Ariel Property Advisors are aiming to raise $10,000 in partnership with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce.
- Rolling Orange Bikes is donating $5 from each bike rental.
- And there are still many ways to volunteer in person.
This is greatly appreciated and awesome. As a resident of Gerrittsen Beach Brooklyn, it will be welcome. How does one apply for benefits from these funds?????
I’m wondering about how the money will be distributed as well. Couldn’t find any info on their site.
