We’re in the third week of sheltering in place and the ninth day of distance learning for New York City schools.

Cuomo closed all the playgrounds in New York City but parks are still open for people who practice social distancing. For those who don’t, there are hefty fines. The U.S. Labor Department reported today more than 6.6 million filed an unemployment claim in the last week, an unheard of number, even as many workers laid off at the start of the pandemic have still not been able to get through in New York City.

Relief measures, as extraordinary as they are, are still spotty, with many Brooklyn small business owners unable to work and homeowners reporting mortgage lenders expect payment in full after 90 days.

Meanwhile, health care workers are unable to get the protective gear they need and are exposed to high doses of the virus, making them especially vulnerable.
