A Windsor Terrace reader sent us this tip and picture of a new food spot coming to the neighborhood at 601 Greenwood Avenue. Named Brooklyn Commune, it will serve prepared food, cafe items, and will also cater, all with local and seasonal products. Our tipster wonders if “maybe the Windsor Terrace South / North Kensington area is ready to make its move to join Cortelyou Road as having places worthy of dining in rather than trekking up to the Slope…” GMAP

  1. I think they’ll do well, as this neighborhood has attracted a whole new demographic in recent years.

I lived across the street from this location back in the Eighties, when it was a laundromat. This part of Windsor Terrace was sleepy, very working class, mostly safe and more than a little boring at night. The block had a deli, a Domino’s pizza, a pretty good Italian restaurant called Laura’s, and around the corner Blondie’s luncheonette. That was it for “dining options.”

I shared a $600/month railroad two-bedroom whose kitchen faced the Prospect Expressway. Sometimes on weekends cars going too fast would flip over trying to make the 10th Avenue exit.

Oh, the memories this brings back.

  2. Welcome to the neighborhood!
We have the best wine store- Juice Box
    We have Crossroads Cafe
We have Cynthia King Dance Studio
A great new addition to our little commercial strip on Prospect Ave!

I have been around the corner for 15 years and it gets better and better.
    brooklyn real welcomes brooklyn commune!!

  3. Good for them, although the “Windsor Terrace South / North Kensington area” that your tipster references is really on the other side of the Prospect Expressway from this place….at least in the way that I think of it. In any event, neither side has a lot of nice dining options at the moment.
