On the anniversary of the death of George Floyd, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Cherry Esplanade will be filled with the music of jazz composer and trombonist Craig Harris for an evening of remembrance and reflection.

Harris will be reprising a work, a series of compositions entitled “Breathe,” that he performed in the quiet of the closed garden last year. This time there will be an in-person audience and he will be joined by a 25-person brass ensemble.

His work, which has focused on the concept of breathing since the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and the killing of Eric Garner in New York, gained new meaning in the midst of the pandemic and in the wake of the killing of George Floyd.

The outdoor performance takes place on May 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The Botanic Garden will be open for extended evening hours for the event and is providing pay-as-you-wish admission for this special concert. Tickets must be purchased in advance. For more information visit the event page online.
