In case you didn’t leave your house yesterday, our beloved borough was the subject of yet another cover story, this time in New York Magazine. The issue focuses on Brooklyn style, in the process touching on furniture design, art, interiors and fashion. Our favorite pieces? The story of an East Village family’s renovation of two floors of a Brooklyn Heights brownstone and the story of a native son’s return to his family home in Flatbush. Did you learn anything new or interesting from the issue?
Brooklyn Style [New York Magazine]
I enjoyed the 10 minutes I spent paging through it. It’s New York Magazine; short puff pieces and decent listings is what they do.
The BHill house is on Pacific between Hoyt and Bond. No surprise that NYMag would concentrate on the GRUPS who moved to Brooklyn. See link below for grup article. http://newyorkmetro.com/news/features/16529/index.html
is there an echo in here???
I care about ethnic eateries and enclaves! Yesterday I was thinking I was in a rut, food-wise. I’m looking forward to the outdoor food vendors starting up again in Red Hook at the soccer field. I’m lame about finding new dining options, yet nothing makes me happier. Any favorites?

I just picked up the issue this morning, and on a quick scan, it looks like the typical NYMag narrow-focus article about a borough the writers don’t know very much about (I used to work for its publisher, so I can say that). I think what most people are looking for in an all-encompassing story about Brooklyn in all its glory won’t be found in NYMag. But I’ll read it anyway…there’s always something new to be learned.
Is there more to those articles that I’m missing?
They’re just short puff pieces with little substance. I don’t think they’ll change anyones attitude about Brooklyn.
