Best Chinese Food in Brooklyn?
We’ve never had a local Chinese spot that was worth raving about, but we recently had some above-average take-out from Lichee Nut a Brooklyn Heights spot with a wide delivery radius. We’ve never had a local Chinese spot that was worth raving about, but we recently had some above-average take-out from Lichee Nut a Brooklyn Heights spot with a wide delivery radius. We didn’t order anything too adventurous on the first time around, but we were very satisfied with what we got the sesame chicken wasn’t gristly; the peanut noodles were served in a very generous portion for only $3.50; and the Szechuan veggie dumplings with hot sesame sauce were downright delicious. It got us wondering what are everybody’s favorite Chinese take-out joints in Brooklyn? And if we’re going to make a trip to Brooklyn’s Chinatown, what are the best eats there?

86 Noodle in Bay Ridge
(on corner of 4 Ave and 86th street)
Red Hot on 7th avenue in park slope (near 10th street)
in this order.
greenleaves in greepoint, on manhattan ave, is not only the best, it’s the only edible, chinese in the greenpoint/williamsburg area.
Try Ming Gee, on 6th Ave and 62nd Street for dim sum. There’s a bit of a language barrier (we asked for squid, got soy dessert), and it’s a bit greasy, but high marks all around.
For not Dim Sum, I’m all about Red Hot on 7th Ave in Park Slope. And Empire Kitchen was pretty good when they were on Court Street. I didn’t know they reopened, I will definitely give them a try.
I like Sapolo on Myrtle avenue. It is a block and a half east of Kum Kau (Myrtle and Washington. They boast an interesting combination of Chinese and Spanish. Have the roast chicken with pork fried rice and steamed broccoli. Don’t forget the crushed garlic for the chicken. And to wash it all down, have one of their patented fresh frozen lemonades. You can have it with or without the adult stuff.
Since I am squatting next door, I say no pork Halal on 4th Avenue bwtn Dean & Bergen.
Kum Kao Kitchen on Washington and Myrtle has a truly unbelieveble amount of double-parked cars out front picking up food at all hours. I have, though, witnessed a rat run into the restaurant (from outside, which seemed the wrong way around) and they proceeded to chase it around the waiting area with brooms. It’s listed in Zagat’s.
M Shanhai Bistro on Havermeyer in Williamsburg is amazing!
Hunan Delight on 6th? Chinese Musician in Greenpoint? (where my husband used to order the Round-Eye Roast Chicken as a kid ’cause he was too scared to try even chow-mein!) I thought we were gonna talk real Chinese ala Chowhound. So far, we love Lucky 8 on 8th Ave in Sunset Park. My daughter ordered shrimp and got ’em heads-still-on…and was a VERY good sport and ate ’em anyway (they were delish!)
