In a step that should help streamline the efforts at creating one long continuous park along the Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo waterfront, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corporation will assume management responsibility for the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park under a 99-year lease deal with the State. In addition to coordinating maintenance and programming, reports The Eagle, the move will also put the BBPDC in charge of booking the Tobacco Warehouse and overseeing the restoration of the Empire Stores.
Bridge Park Corporation To Take Over Empire Park [Brooklyn Eagle]
Bring fun back to Brooklyn parks!
I’m with Brownstonerlogin and jwald. Time to let the dogs in!
jwald, walking is fun too. You can still do a lil’ brown bagging!
I’ve never set foot in this section of the park as no dogs, no bikes and, apparently, no fun is allowed.
does this change the drinking laws? i believe you can drink in the state controlled park, not the city controlled (the security let us know of this, very polite as he guided us to our new drinking park)
And what about bicycles? There has been a rule against bike riding in the state-run park.
Don’t suppose it means they’ll start allowing dogs there? As far as I know, the state-run Empire Fulton portion of Brooklyn Bridge Park doesn’t permit dogs (sniff), but the city-run part does…
Does this mean they can keep the gates open in the evening? They gate off the State Park section way too early, especially during the summer when it’s still light for hours after the park “closes”.
