There hasn’t been much news about the long-in-the-making Atlantic Avenue BID since November, when subcommittees from CB2 and CB6 voiced support for the business improvement district. However, at last week’s CB2 meeting, there was word that there will be a public City Council hearing for the BID’s establishment on April 28th, and the date’s been confirmed on the proposed BID’s website. If approved, the district would cover all properties fronting Atlantic Avenue from the BQE to 4th Avenue, as well as one block north and south on all side streets. The BID’s budget would be $240,000 a year for marketing, sanitation, streetscape, and traffic and crime advocacy.

  1. meanwhile the heavy double-load of NY State and City Taxes that every merchant and employer on the Avenue pays goes to what? I’m sure most local merchants need an additional tax, in the form of the BID fees, like a hole in the head.
