Neither the hopes nor the fears surrounding last spring’s suspension of alternate side of the street parking in Park Slope were realized, according to the findings of the Department of Transportation. Parking spaces were not hogged by scheming commuters but nor was it measurably easier for residents to find a spot. According to a post-suspension survey, it takes drivers an average of 27 minutes to find a parking spot in the Slope. Ouch! Wonder what the average time is in Brooklyn Heights.

Yeah, I’d rather walk for 10 minutes than circle for 45 minutes waiting for a spot right in front of my door!
Parking is a pain, but if you want a car in NYC, you learn to deal with it…otherwise stop bitching.
Or, as I’ve heard about parking problems sometimes: “We don’t have a parking problem; we have a walking problem.” Meaning that some people, unlike Bayridgegirl and her hubby will drive around until they find a spot that’s very close in.
meh. i don’t have much issue with the MTA.. well our transit system anyway. i know it might be expensive for a lot of new yorkers to commute, (myself included for the most part), but it’s not that bad and it’s really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things. i don’t mind the 100 bux to commute a month, i guess the only thing i dont like is the service cutbacks. has anyone already started noticing them? i’ve really started noticing this on the R and 1 lines lately.

Having a car in NYC is overrated. We only use it on the weekends and most times to get out of NYC!
I’m a road warrioir (I can say it now that you-know-who is not here to give me hell for my gas usage). I love a good road trip. Not this one, I’m on now, though.
BTW – filled up on our way down at $1.45 a gallon for gas…let the good times roll!!!
people exaggerate. once in a while it takes a long time to find a spot, but if you have good parking karma, which is a must in Brooklyn, it is usually pretty easy. The hassles are usually a result of street closings or movie shoots, or other discretionary activities undertaken by our illustrious community leaders. Now that the MTA is planning to hike its fares some ridiculous amount, I think more New Yorkers than ever will take to driving and car pooling. The MTA really holds us hostage, New Yorkers should fight back not only to the transit big shots but to the pols like Bloomberg who wants to see us barefoot and peddling to work in the rain, snow, and freezing cold. Up theirs.
I don’t have a car up here in NYC but there’s always plenty of parking on my block in Bed Stuy.
im not a car-hater at all. (tho i dont drive or have a license!) im not even an environmentalist in the slightest. but if you spend 1/2 an hour circling your neighborhood to find a parking space, you have problems. it would be cheaper to hire someone to carry your bags to your doorstep than to do it with a car. crazytown!

BTW – sometimes, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. It takes us 45 minutes to find a spot in my hood. Hubby gives up and parks 10-15 blocks away.
“Is that BRG’s caddy I see there on the left? who’s she visiting?”
That very well could be!!
