The Asbestos Workers Union (didn’t realize there was such a thing) is taking the shock-and-awe approach to raising awareness for its services by erecting a couple of coffins on Flushing Avenue this morning. Evidently, there’s some contractor or another with headquarters inside the Navy Yard that has yet to see the wisdom of paying top dollar for their services. For a view inside the coffins, click through to the jump. Update: A reader sent in a scan of one of the flyers that the protesters are now handing out. You can view it here.
sure it is dibs. They lost market share cuz of crappy, ugly products, not health care benefits.
Unions are just a bunch of thugs. They use thuggery to force workers to join, and thuggery to try to force companies to hire them. No wonder the mafia and unions have been so close over the years.
That’s not what broke the companies, denton.
dibs, you mean the auto unions designed such beautys as the Ford Pinto, the AMC Pacer, the Chevy Chevette, and the Pontiac Aztek?
**unimpeachable**
“Whats next?” I’d like to see some Draculas saying that non-union work is sucking the lifeblood out of the middle class. Dracula is alsways cool, and vampires are back in fashion. Sadly though, the protests would have to be after dark.
Unions are not a bad thing generally speaking. Instead, what is a bad thing is when any group wields what may be seen as unreasonable and impeachable control and the people who can put the breaks on it repeatedly fold like a $28 card table at Target. Business owners, building owners, whoever, they simply must take the blame in any anti-union rant. When you continue to ‘give in to union demands,’ even when you think said demands are unreasonable, you become the source of the problem. Unions only have as much power as they are given by business owners, government, etc.
john, they’ve already caused the meltdown of the steel industry, the airlines and the autos. They are the primary problems with costs for EVERY state & municipal governement as well as the USPS and Amtrak.
What more do you want?????
get a grip. the original reasons for unions are really no longer issues. They are corrupt organizations and they do more harm than good now.
If unions would move on salary increases and take concessions LIKE EVERY ONE ELSE, people wouildn’t get fired or layed off.
kinda classless and tasteless, but if i worked with asbestos i think i’d want top dollar and good bennies too.
