We’ve written a couple times about the new businesses coming to Washington Avenue, and waited patiently as construction progressed at the long-deserted Crown Fried Chicken on the corner of Washington and Prospect. Despite hearing rumors it would be a bagel place, the spot may serve more than that: An awning just went up showing it will be named “Skazzy Cafe.” (For what it’s worth, Urban Dictionary has the following definition of skazzy: “kind of neat, but slightly jankidy.”) In equally curious storefront names, this biz is next door to the just-opened West Indian restaurant “God Is.” GMAP

  1. It’s good enough, but if you have ever had awesome West Indian food, you’d know that Islands is not it… I totally agree with Big Jugs’ assessment here.

And for all of the sad googling ya’ll are doing, skazzy is actually a music reference to ska + jazz. It’s also not an uncommon nickname amongst the not-white-hipster-or-yuppie-who-thinks-he-knows-everything crowd.

  2. Islands is not awesome West Indian food. Very mediocre. Plus, you have to wait forever for it to be prepared, assuming you are lucky enough to have your selected item available.

When I read Skazzy, I thought of Skanky.

  3. From Urban Dictionary:

    jankedy

Related to “yo shit don’t work” “Old tired-ass equipment” Anything 10 years or older costing less than $25 possibly sitting on your front porch for more than a year.

“Your Atari 2600 looks awfully jankedy on your black and white television.”

“I refuse to throw dubs on your jankedy-ass Pinto”
