From the Forum: Must DOT Be Involved for a Stoop Rebuild?
If a stoop was removed decades ago and a homeowner would like to replace it, is permission needed from the Department of Transportation?
A reader would like to rebuild a stoop and is wondering if the Department of Transportation (DOT) needs to be involved. The stoop was removed in the 1940s and replacing it would mean encroaching on the sidewalk and they suspect this means involving DOT. Since their property is locally designated they know they will have to contact the Landmarks Preservation Commission but are wondering what the DOT process might be.
Please chime in with any advice.
