Mapei or Bostik grout? Color suggestions?

What grout do you suggest for bathroom floor and wall tiles — Mapei or Bostik?

And we’re looking for a gray, similar to these photos. Does anyone know what color this could be?

And while we’re at it, what do you think of using the large subway wall tile with the octagon dot floor tile? (Click through to see the floor tile and some answers from readers.)

Interesting that you note Mapie or Bostik; in my recent two renovations the tile pros suggested Laticrete or Tec grout. But we did an oversize subway tile wall with similar gray grout — it was Laticrete “smoke gray” (and we have a black and white basketweave floor).

I have large hex tile in my half bath and I’m not a fan. It just doesn’t feel warm or elegant. What about a penny tile to go with the subway tile? Or a small marble hex tile?

  1. Agreed Dave. I prefer dark grout. It’s just that the large hex tile, even with the dark grout just kinda falls flat. I loved it on paper until I put it in the half bath. You can use dark grout on penny tile- which I think works better.
