From the Forum: Will Adding Stories Mean Installing an Elevator?
A homeowner is thinking about putting some additional stories on the top of their townhouse and is wondering how high they can go before an elevator would be required.

A homeowner is thinking about putting some additional stories on the top of their townhouse and is wondering how high they can go before an elevator would be required. The two-family house has three stories above a basement. If they stay below five stories will they avoid having to install an elevator? What else should they consider?
