On September 22, Brownstoner launched an Instagram photo challenge in honor of the iconic “The Doors of Brooklyn” poster.
The campaign paid homage to Sweeney, a successful local architect, Brooklyn resident and gifted photographer who made the original poster in 2004. To commemorate the first anniversary of his passing, we asked our readers to submit their own photos of their favorite Brooklyn doors.
We received more than 400 submissions via our social media channels and email, and selected 30 to be included in our rendition of the final poster (below are the Instagram selections).
We’re a *tad* biased, but this is our favorite BK doorway (center doors of the Peter Jay Sharp Building, built in 1908 and designed by architects Herts and Tallant), @brownstoner. It's no longer "working," as the escalator in our lobby is directly behind it, but it makes for a great lunch/meeting/people-watching spot, and is so beautifully adorned! #TheDoorsofBrooklyn
This week for #littlethingsthursday we're submitting our doors at 175 Broadway for the @brownstoner contest #doorsofbrooklyn. We wrote about the contest honoring the late (and great) Joseph Lee Sweeney. Head to our blog to learn more about the it! #josephleesweeney #williamsburg #brooklyn Photo by @noriegamechi
Printed in Brooklyn, this limited-edition giclée poster is made from hi-res digital scans and uses archival-quality ink, providing better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. The quality of the giclée print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries and photographic galleries.
