BK Developers on 12th Street
[nggallery id=”26898″ template=galleryview] BK Developers’ buildings are easily spot-able throughout the South Slope, but on one block — 12th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues — they’re particularly prevalent. Behold 362, 372 and 394, respectively. They all look pretty occupied, so clearly not everyone is bothered by the, well, the way they look.

With the center one (372), I just want to take the two ends, fold them into each other and close it, never to be looked at again.
C+; F; B.
I think it’s a shame. With a little tweaking, they could be effectively straddle that line between contextual and dynamic–clearly new, but in conversation with the old. Instead, they refuse to mix in with stoop- and window-lines, have strange setbacks, hideous doorways. Come on, how much harder is it to make something inviting, that doesn’t look like a medical office?
Exactly THL, merci.
The center one is the only one that makes me recoil (Hello Miami!). While the others wouldn’t be my first choice, I’ve certainly seen worse.
You know what, I take what I said back, with the exception of the first “Bricolage-esque” building you show (I cannot believe I am using that as a positive adjective), the rest is just plain sh*t! No other way to put it.
I cannot believe the “double-down Minerva” that is the two headed sister to the one on 16th Street, as well as the roof finishes of the brown standing seam metal roofing by-way-of a steel mill that also encrusts BK’s three additional beauties on 16th St.
Way to continue to pollute the architectural pool of Brooklyn!
(these boys are giving Bobby S. a run for his money for our of context designs)
i love “trying to be architecture.” that captures it perfectly.
I have to agree that these, of all the POSs BK and its “enfant terriblé,” Mark Zeldin, has put up are the least offensive.
Now, the crap BK has built/building on 16th St, Jackson Pl. and 19th St. in South Slope/Greenwood Heights is entirely another matter.
Garbage in, garbage out is what I always say.
Yeah, the one in the middle takes the prize. I’ve never been to Miami, if this is typical, another reason not to go.
I think Brenda said it best.
