This week DOT updated CB8’s Transportation Committee on the Grand Army Plaza makeover, laying out a timeline and informing the committee that it had nixed a proposal a bike lane on Plaza Street. The schedule is as follows: In June, there will be construction on the concrete islands during the night; during July there will be night and day construction on concrete islands, with one traffic diversion during the day; and in August the roads will be repaved, new street markings will go in, and epoxied gravel and granite blocks will be installed. The two-way bike lane on Plaza was ruled out because, according to a DOT spokesman, “it would have taken too long to do outreach.” You can see the full, updated presentation here (PDF).

  1. OM: There will still be the same one-way Plaza St unprotected bike lane from Vanderbilt to Union, then new bike paths installed as part of this project to get you from Union to the actual park entrance.

  2. So it looks like there’s no bike connection from Vanderbilt up to the Park? It’s hard to tell from the picture but I don’t see any green there.

  3. Really too bad they’re not doing the two-way bike lanes. There’s always some moron going the wrong way in the existing bike lane.
