253 Pacific Street, an empty lot between Boerum and Smith, looks like it may soon be built out. A DOB permit was recently approved to construct a new five-story, three-family building. Since this area’s not landmarked, it’ll be interesting to see how it takes shape. This isn’t far from the small-scale build over at 101 Boerum. GMAP P*Shark DOB

  1. I know a girl who lives in the building next to this, and she said years ago, the street was crappy, but not so much anymore. I guess the “activity” BoD refers to has been gentrified, or something, but she says it’s a pretty quiet street now. (I mentioned this thread to her.)

  2. I walk down the block frequently. I don’t notice any ‘activity’. Can’t say what was years ago.
But the seemingly abandoned garage and Ratifico and their rodents don’t help. But is just steps from lot of new construction. Wish the big lot that has foundation poured would resume construction. (boerum place).

  3. quote:
There is a lot of “activity” on this block thanks to the large, mostly RS, tenement building across the street.

aw, by “activity” you mean as in people not sipping wine, blogging on their on their macbooks, and combing lice eggs out of their beards? 🙁 the horror!

  4. One of my son’s best friends lives in one of those buildings. His parents are lovely people who immigrated from India, each have jobs, and have always welcomed my son into their home. I would agree that the buildings could be maintained better, but since when is laundry being hung out the window such an offense? Such haters…

  5. this lot is sandwiched b/w two old school nasty tenements … complete with laundry hanging out the windows, etc. a bunch of lots on that block seemed to be owned by some old slum lord. change has been slow on these blocks of pacific b/w court & smith.
