A “Cash for Gold” business is opening up near the corner of Flatbush and St. Marks in a space that was previously occupied by a hair-braiding salon. It’s a few blocks away from the controversial Prime Six restaurant site, and will perhaps be a good way to fund bottle service once the club opens up… GMAP

  1. What about the sign itself, people? That has got to be one of the fugliest, cluttery, loud business marquees I’ve seen in the neighborhood. Ack — call the graphic design police!

  2. Just what is needed now your going to have people getting ripped off for their gold chains and such. We are moving backwards this happened all the time and as far as the club,Park Slop does not need another pretneious bar/cafe where yuppie mom and dads sit and drink while their kids run wild.

  3. If you’re lucky, you will get about two/thirds what the market value of your gold is. It’s almost impossible to figure out in advance as they don’t weigh the stuff using regular ounces but rather Troy ounces and penny weights. Very nefarious. But hey, they’re in it for a profit. You should definitely haggle.

However, they are better than Check Cashing establishments. Which should be renamed “We steal Social Security and Disability checks from the mentally and physically disabled in your community.

i’ve had to (sometimes still) do have to use a check cashing place here and there.

    *rob*

  5. My impression of these types of Cash for Gold places is that they will take advantage of people in need, and not give a good value.

There may be better ones that will give better prices, such as the one Minard attended.

  6. How ’70s! We had one of these places open on Flatbush Avenue, near Lincoln Road, in PLG about a year ago. I never saw anyone inside. They went out of business after a few months.

  7. I live closer to this place than anyone else here, so everyone, your opinions are hereby rendered invalid. Besides for what it’s worth there’s already a check cashing place. And I think Emily’s comment was more about the club than the gold place, a simple throwaway line.
