The Red Hook Green, the proposed zero-energy home, hasn’t broken ground yet, but Curbed snagged this new rendering to hold us over. The architects tell Curbed that the building now won’t be done until winter 2010. If successful, the building will get all its energy from renewable sources. You can check out the Red Hook Green blog to follow the development.

  1. This building (site) will be on the GreenHomeNYC tour on October 2nd in conjunction with The NEW New York Green Block Party. The party is on Third Street between Bond + Hoyt.

  2. It would be perfect if there were windows going across the front of the third level as well. I’ve seen the architects other projects and I agree that this is a poor rendering. Parson’s School of Design is working on a similar project in DC as part of the 2011 Solar Decathlon

  3. yes, this made of shipping containers. The architect has been dabbling in modular & sustainable design for quite a while now. It’s too bad that this rendering is poorly done, as most of his built modular stuff looks rather elegant.

  4. I know I may get flamed for this, but I actually like it. Non-trad in a non-trad area of Brooklyn. Will be an interesting experiment.

  5. “zero energy” meaning… not counting the 4 cars in the garage to accomodate the transportation needs (red hook!) of anyone willing and able to afford the first mcmansion in the hook.

personally i like the look tho.

  6. It looks like 3 shipping containers thrown on top of an old brick warehouse.- did they make it out of locally available crap?
