Atlantic-terrace-1009.jpgThe Local reported yesterday on this week’s October meeting of Brooklyn Community Board 2, during which it was announced that applications for Atlantic Terrace, the 80-unit affordable (ish) housing development at 669 Atlantic will be available November 1. According to The Local, “construction should be complete by May, followed soon after by a city-sponsored lottery.” Other topics at the meeting included the Navy Yards, the new Fulton Street business improvement district called the FAB Alliance, and zoning and how it relates to stalled construction sites.

  1. “and yes, i do know about the huge development behind (north) of Atlantic Terrace, but i don’t know who the developer was, do you?”

    The city sponsored that project.

  2. “and, are you saying that FCR won’t build any more affordable housing now that we have Atlantic Terrace? i didn’t believe that FCR was ever going to build affordable housing, whether or not AT was built.”

Threecee that’s exactly what I’m saying!! I think AT’s presence will satisfy the few still expecting more affordable housing in the area.

NOW I maybe talking out my ass with the “same players” comment, but I do remember seeing “coming soon signage” with Bloomberg’s name on it. I hear Ratner sleeps in the bottom bunk at Gracie mansion when they have their slumber parties.

  3. I believe there were several developers of the portion of the Atlantic Terminal Urban Renewal Area that is north of Atlantic Terrace. Hudson Companies was one, if recollection serves (as it does less and less often. I am old enough to remember the meat packers that moved to this area after being displaced from Manhattan.)

re: “the players”–threecee is right; jack slade is wrong.

  4. This building is ugly and out of context with the surrounding area. We need more low-rise buildings to preserve the local housing culture.

  5. i’m pretty sure that the players behind Atlantic Terrace, Fifth Avenue Committee (FAC), are not the same players behind Atlantic Yards, Forest City Ratner (FCR). in fact, FAC testified *against* Atlantic Yards in at least 2 hearings. if they *are* the same players, i believe you have a huge news scoop!

and yes, i do know about the huge development behind (north) of Atlantic Terrace, but i don’t know who the developer was, do you? i believe that whole area was demolished for “slum” clearance, which gave you your dirtbike trail, if i remember correctly.

and, are you saying that FCR won’t build any more affordable housing now that we have Atlantic Terrace? i didn’t believe that FCR was ever going to build affordable housing, whether or not AT was built.

  6. No sarcasism threecee. It’s the same area and same players!

Did you know there’s a huge project complex right behind this new development? Also in the late 80s my dirtbike trail turned into a bunch of little affordable homes. All along South Portland and the immediate area.

And now we have Atlantic Terrace.

I do not believe the wonderful developers of AY will build any more. There’s plenty to go around! Fill out a AP if you’re interested.

  7. um, i *assume* you’re being sarcastic, mr slade? right? you can never tell when it comes to Atlantic Yards. but just to be clear: Atlantic Yards and Atlantic Terrace are completely different projects.

too bad they decided to scrap plans to put solar panels on the roof of Atlantic Terrace, as the shadows from Atlantic Yards would have put this spot in shade all day. i’m betting they would have been able to use those panels for a minimum of 10 years, and probably much longer.
