Longtime creative and cultural community Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC) is celebrating 50 years of supporting borough arts with an after-party following BAC’s annual gala fundraiser Alive with Art on Tuesday, May 3.

The after-party is presented by both BAC and Communion Music, an artist-led group that promotes concerts, publishes songwriters and records musicians. The organization was founded by one of this year’s gala’s honorees, Grammy Award–winning musician and entrepreneur Ben Lovett, who is a member of British folk-rock group Mumford & Sons.

The Alive with Art After Party will feature live performances from sultry songstress Rachel Brown and blues group The Bones of J.R. Jones.

Known for blending the musical traditions of her Ethiopian, Bermudian and Southern roots, Brown’s performances combine a vintage flair and the Motown and hip-hop influences of her childhood. The Bones of J.R. Jones are also diverse in influences and style, bringing a 21st-century folk element to their music. The group recently released its second album, Spirit’s Furnace.

This year’s gala will honor Ben Lovett and Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright and novelist Suzan-Lori Parks.

The after-party will be held at popular Dumbo event space 26 Bridge Street from 10 p.m. to midnight following the gala’s ceremony and dinner, which takes place from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Advance tickets for the event cost $20 and can be purchased online. Tickets will cost $30 at the door.

Proceeds from the event will benefit BAC.
