Design Firms Selected to Study the QueensWay

More momentum to transform the abandoned railroad tracks to Rockaway Beach into The QueensWay! DNAinfo reports that the Trust for Public Land selected two designers to study the feasibility of turning the tracks into a Highline-esque public park. The firms, WXY architecture + urban design and dlandstudio were selected on the basis of their environmental background, experience with structural engineering, and their awareness of community engagement in the design. The $400,000 feasibility study will test the quality of the soil, the structural integrity of the railroad tracks, and the cost of construction. This phase will last about nine months. If the project is deemed feasible, then the Friends of The QueensWay will begin fundraising for the park. So far, about $1,000,000 of funding has come in.
