Linc LIC, a 709 unit, 42 story tower in the Court Square section of Long Island City, has just landed a supermarket. Food Cellar, an upscale grocery store now based in a highrise on the nearby waterfront is launching a second store in the 14,500 square foot ground floor and basement space in the Rockrose Development tower. Like its other long Island City location, the market plans to offer a large selection of produce, meat and traditional groceries as well as a cafe and an extensive selection of prepared foods. Rockrose was asking $40 a square foot for the space. Food Cellar plans to open the store next summer. One of the store’s owners told Crain’s, “‘Our store was born in Long Island City and growing with Long Island City is very exciting.'” The Court Square area will only become more residential over the next several years — Rockrose alone plans to build 2,500 units there including those at Linc LIC — and a grocery store is sure to be a welcome addition.
