Above, that’s LIC Partnership President Elizabeth Lusskin, Senator Gianaris, Council Member Van Bramer, and the Parks Department celebrating the new trees planned for Shady Park. Shady Park sustained significant damage to play equipment, safety surfaces, and the tall, shade-giving trees during Hurricane Sandy. The park didn’t reopen until early this fall, and even then many of the trees remained missing. Council Member Van Bramer secured $10,000 worth of donations from jetBlue and Warner Bros. to replant 10 large trees. Friends of Shady Park reports, “Please let everyone know that the park will most likely be closed to the public from Wednesday through Friday of this week to allow for the planting. These are big trees, being delivered on big trucks with some big excavating necessary for the tree pits.”
