Last week exciting news broke on the restoration (finally!) of the Jay Street firehouse. The 18-month project will return the building to its 1890 appearance, at right. Now we have a little more info from the Pratt Area Community Council, who is behind the project. PACC partnered with MDG Design and Construction as co-owner and general contractor for the building and historic renovations. The project is financed by a number of organizations. First off, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development will provide financing, considering the firehouse holds 18 units of affordable housing. Money is also coming from the Community Preservation Corporation, a construction bridge loan by the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, a grant from NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation (from their Environmental Protection Fund for Historic Preservation), federal Historic Tax Credits (with the National Development Council as the tax credit syndicator), and developer equity. Obviously a lot of pieces have come together to get this project, which has been in the works for years, off the ground. Can’t wait to follow its progress!
