Sierra Club, Local Activists Implore Mayor de Blasio to Save the View of the Brooklyn Bridge

After exhausting their legal options, local activist group Save the View Now (STVN) is appealing directly to Mayor Bill de Blasio — asking him to require the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation to address the view-blocking height of the Pierhouse development.
The group hand delivered their letter to the Mayor on Tuesday afternoon. Cosigned by 22 other local and national environmental and preservation groups, including the Sierra Club, Historic Districts Council, and NYC Park Advocates, the letter urges the Mayor to take action:
Dear Mayor Bill de Blasio;
Whereas, Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation made an agreement, and commitment, to the public to limit the height of the Pierhouse to ensure that the famous views from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade are protected;
Whereas, such commitment has been broken, as confirmed by former NY City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe;
Whereas, the Park Corporation has failed to take action to rectify its breach;
Whereas, the Park Corporation has failed to work with the community to reach a resolution;
Whereas, the Park Corporation continues to rely on a legal technicality that the public did not catch their violation and bring a lawsuit in time;
Whereas, Toll Brothers and Starwood are estimated to make over $100 million in windfall profits resulting from this breach;
Whereas, the public trust that existed to create Brooklyn Bridge Park has now been compromised;
Whereas, the cherished views from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade will forever be scarred;
Whereas, the public is unwilling to accept this travesty as a permanent part of the 65 year history of the majestic Brooklyn Heights Promenade;
As the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation is a Not-For-Profit Controlled by the Office of the Mayor, we ask that you do everything in your power to make things right and uphold Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation’s commitment to limit the height and size of Pierhouse.

This should be political issue in the mayoral election. The mayor needs to save the view or be defeated
Oh RRR, clintonhillbuyer and Arkady: why are YOU so keen to defend the 1% who will be living in the million dollar plus apartments from which Toll Brothers and Starwood will be profitting? I can assure you that I and many, many NYer’s of all socio-economic classes and from neighborhoods not even remotely close to BH are horrified that a beautiful iconic view is being destroyed by greed. Not to mention the tourists who go there to see the beautiful view. The specious argument by the BBPC, Toll Brothers and Starwood that respecting the height limits of original agreement will endanger the funding of the park is ridiculous. Really, the funding of the park totally depends on one illegal storey of overpriced flats?
No, it does not.
I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to be someone who lives in sight of the hotel and can read intelligent commentaries about a local issue that are so spot on. We are so outnumbered in BHB. Please carry-on and know that most people here agree with you.
