For the past week or so we’ve seen some development coming to the old La Playa space in Park Slope, at 230 5th on the corner of President. First we saw paper going up, and then very recently the yellow awning disappeared. A commenter on Brooklynian also noticed movement there, but there aren’t many clues to what’s actually moving in. Has anyone heard anything? GMAP

As long as they don’t leave Cortelyou, I’m down with that. Speaking of Cortelyou places, I had brunch at The Castello Plan recently and it was outstanding.

  2. Total Wine bar is pretty close by…not sure we need another wine bar…especially in a space so large as this one…

I’d actually love to see Mimi’s hummus come in and take that spot. I’d eat there every night. 🙂

I realize that’s not going to happen.

  3. Ya 11217, Fette Sau would be smart to open up a storefront ANYWHERE else. At any given time at least half the people in that place are from outside the nabe.

Not sure if they could smoke the meat in a storefront like this though.

  4. Would love a good sit down Vietnamese. Also curious if a wine bar would work. Spvino (sp-?)on 5th wasn’t open long. I think the overflow from al di la’s wine bar could support it?

  5. “What would work there?”

A sit down, (non Bahn Mi) Vietnamese restaurant or

GOOD BBQ, a la Fette Sau.

Wouldn’t mind something along the lines of No. 7 in Ft. Greene in there either. Part of the problem with the last couple incarnations (besides the terribly mediocre food) was the ghastly decor. They need to class it up a bit. Playa was ugly as sin as was Bisquit BBQ.
