The parlor floor on this four-story limestone, at 600 2nd Street in Park Slope, is a serious showpiece.

There’s a small rainforest’s worth of dark carved wood on display — the doorways, the giant pier mirror in the front room, two mantels, that amazing kitchen ceiling. There’s also a tantalizing glimpse of what looks like a wall of original wood built-in cabinets to the right in the middle room.

Check out the plaster details as well, and the stained glass transoms, and the stunning parquet floors. The window daybed in the kitchen is a terrific touch, with stained glass above no less.

And with three connecting rooms, and a deep extension in the rear, the parlor floor runs about 65 feet from front to back.

It’d be nice to see more of what the rest of the house looks like. There’s only one shot from the other three floors, and nothing of the outdoor space. (The latter is a scant 19 feet by 10 feet — the price of the aforementioned deep extension.)

Right now the house is set up as a three-bedroom duplex on the bottom with two rentals (each with two bedrooms) on the third and fourth floors. You could presumably turn it into a garden rental with an upper triplex, but with kitchens on the top two floors and none on the garden level it’d take some doing.

Of course if you could swing it, you could turn the whole thing into a one-family, with a serious spread of 4,500 square feet. Given the asking price of $3,975,000, that’s a fairly big “if.”

The house — on a coveted park block — was listed on Monday, by Charles Ruoff at Brown Harris Stevens. How does it look to you?

  1. When they put an ugly out of place rug in the pictures, does that usually mean the floor is stained?

Also random question, but is there any disadvantage to a rowhouse only having an english basement and no cellar, besides the lack of incremental storage space? I.e,. does a cellar add any structural value?

  3. yeah, its not a photo thing since its in the next picture as well. very odd. why not just waterproof the whole floor for an even tone? bizarre.
