The sales listing calls this 21-foot-wide Italianate brownstone at 25 Monroe Street in Bed Stuy “classic and timeless,” and that seems a fair estimation. It’s a beaut, full of airy, high-ceilinged spaces and nice details, including arched doorways, crown moldings, original woodwork, French doors, and marble mantels.

Generally speaking, the house looks to be in top shape, and the listing says there are “new systems throughout,” including central air. There’s a lovely kitchen in the lower duplex that looks recently renovated, and marble bathrooms.

It’s set up as a two-family, with upper and lower duplexes. There are only two bedrooms in the lower one, which otherwise seems the pick of the two, with a small deck off the kitchen and a tidy garden below. The top duplex has a third bedroom, but it’s a slender one, just over six feet wide.

The house could be turned into a one-family easily enough, and the seller says it’s easily converted to other configurations as well. There are tenants in the upper duplex paying market rent; the house can be delivered with them or without.

Asking price is $2,750,000. Is the house worth it?

  1. It is a beautiful home. Although would love to see more pictures of the top rental unit to see if the reno there was done to the quality of the owner’s unit. Anyone know if the floors are real or laminate?
