900-fulton-street-100114

Trade Wise, the grocery store that opened at 900 Fulton Street earlier this year, appears to have gone out of business, even though the outside is still festooned with bunting and a flag proclaiming its “grand opening.”

A commenter spotted that it was recently shut during business hours, and when we stopped by twice yesterday, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, it was still closed.

Anyone know more?

  1. I went in this place maybe 4 months ago. It was 60% empty, with no meat, produce, or dairy, and expired dry goods. I decided it was a front, and was confused why they attempted to make it look nice.

  2. @no-permit. Just read your initial comment. I didn’t know about the December vacate deadline, that’s an important piece of information, thanks. I agree, this will be an interesting development to watch, especially because the zoning would probably allow building really tall, being at the corner of Franklin and Fulton. The area need better retail space.

  3. according to my sources (manager of another big super market), that entire corner, consisting of many stores of the same height, will be new condo. out of curiosity, I asked the Key Food manager before that closed, and he confirmed they are going to build new condos. Somehow I heard the sales price was 12 millions from a investment group from Texas. And I’m not sure why the Pop Eyes Fired Chicken hasn’t closed yet, maybe their lease takes longer to expire?

This manger told me about the Good Will closing 3 months ago, and it turns out to be true too, a new building plan has already been filed by the landlord. I can venture to say big changes are under way for this part of Fulton Street.

  4. yeah those are my gripes too – layout and musty odor. produce is good though. and i’ve never had to rifle through the dairy case to find non-expired milk/eggs etc. low bar, i know – but it’s fine. hoping they will do a reno eventually like the pioneer (or whatever it’s called now) on Lafayette

  5. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the met food grocery store on Fulton. It’s gotten a lot better than it was a few years ago. I agree with DH, it would be great if the meet selection was better.

Also this Fair Trade store was a joke from the beginning. Their signage was an eye sore. Even without this alleged owner dispute, I don’t think they would have been successful.

  6. yeah that grocery store is shockingly good – i like the one up on lafayette/grand a little better – but the one on fulton is great for getting off the train after work – just wish they had a little better of a meat selection

  7. “The What’s favorite—and possibly only—subject of interest is the coming Brooklyn Apocalypse. He calls it the Mutant Real Estate Bubble. From the beginning, he has contended vehemently, and repetitiously, and often profanely, that there’s a massive correction coming to the real-estate market that will swallow the borough’s fresh-faced transplants and their artfully renovated brownstones as surely as if a chasm had opened up in the earth. “
