Landmarks Doesn’t Like Glassy Addition on Empire Stores Either

The glassy rooftop addition proposed for the adaptive reuse of the iconic Empire Stores warehouses in Dumbo has alarmed residents and preservationists, who showed up at a Landmarks meeting Tuesday to voice their objections, the Daily Eagle reported. The commissioners agreed with them.

Apparently the commissioners just didn’t like the idea of two glassy floors on top of the brick building, with one saying any rooftop construction should better match the brick of the historic buildings. Another said “I am troubled by its generic quality.” Another said it was too slick looking.

Also this week, Landmarks asked for changes to a similar glassy rooftop proposal for the landmarked Domino factory.
