Pastry and ice cream shop Fort Grace Local opens today in the back of Fort Greene restaurant The General Greene at 229 Dekalb Avenue. When we stopped by yesterday, workers were putting the finishing touches on the space and we weren’t allowed a peek, but there will be a communal table, vintage lighting and marble tile floors, according to a press release.

The new store replaces the restaurant’s outdoor summer-only stand, above, and there will be a much bigger selection, by new pastry chef Elle Lawrence. The ever-changing, seasonal menu with locally sourced ingredients will feature such treats as Honey Cream Cheese Corn Muffins, Apricot Rosemary infused Pistachio Teacake, Clementine Pound Cake, focaccia, brioche, croissants, Chocolate Beet Cake, Butter Toasted Walnut Cake and Bourbon Chocolate Cranberry Pecan Pie.

Malted cookies and bars come in flavors such as Salty Oats, Malted Chocolate Chip and Coconut Dream Bars. House made candy includes Ancho Chili Cinnamon Bark and Salted Pumpkin Caramel.

The restaurant will still be serving its house made ice cream in such flavors as Asian Pear, Pumpkin Pie and Salted Caramel. There are milkshakes and malts, homemade cones, sauces and toppings such as Coffee Cake Streusel and candied spiced nuts.

Some of the items will be vegan, grain-free and sugar-free, so there is something for everyone. The coffee and espresso is from Counter Culture. GMAP
