Rental of the Day: 318 Maple Street

This two-bedroom apartment in Prospect Lefferts Gardens looks pretty spacious and still has most of its original details. The approximately 1,000-square-foot floor-through apartment occupies the second floor of a two-family house. The living room has a bay window, a pier mirror, pocket doors and fretwork. The dining room two built-in china cabinets, one of them built into the fireplace mantel. There are quite a few closets, including one built into the ex-dumbwaiter. The one bathroom isn’t pictured. What do you think of it for $1,975?

This apartment reminds me of my last apartment, in the South Slope, before I bought my house in 1974, The rent, is nearly twice as high though, when corrected for inflation (the $240 I paid = $1,138.55 in 2013 $s).

Maple 3 is a nice block, with (I think) an active block association and a new community garden.

This actually Maple IV (if such a thing exists) as it is east of Nostrand Ave. (and therefore not “adjacent to Lefferts Manor”). This is part of a little row of nice brownstones on the south side of the street.

For the record, this apartment only occupies one floor – the top. Numbering of floors of brownstones can be confusing. I think the technical version goes like this: garden, parlor, 2nd, 3rd…. In this case the second floor is the top floor. The home is located one block and one house (the latter thrown in for Babs) away from The Manor’s border. It was rented over the weekend.
