Councilmember Stephen Levin started a petition to bring Citi Bike stations to Williamsburg and Greenpoint, where there are currently none despite being included in the original plans. As the petition says, “There is great demand in these neighborhoods for Citi Bike, but there is still no timeline for the installation of any stations. As a Greenpoint resident and Citi Bike member myself, I believe strongly that we shouldn’t have to wait any longer.” The petition already has more than 150 signatures. This follows a meeting last week in which constituents expressed support for Citi Bike and talked at length of expanding the program, especially into North Brooklyn. Local Hasidic leaders have fought bike infrastructure, keeping South Williamsburg free of any stations even in the original plan released by the DOT. Otherwise, the DOT identified tons of station locations around North Brooklyn (shown above) that have not yet been installed.
