The latter is now built and widely considered a success, although questions linger about future phases of the project, the lack of promised jobs, affordable housing, the use of eminent domain, public giveaways, and the process. Candace Carponter, the real estate lawyer who headed up the legal team for community group Develop Don’t Destroy Brooklyn, said the process had made her cynical. that’s what they used to sell the deal to the public. visions of grandeur and a piece of the pie. the deal is done, anything that is done going forward will be highly modified and justified economically on a stand-alone basis. there is no santa claus.
