New Build on 4th Avenue Reaches Full Height

Last summer the frame of 187 4th Avenue was just starting to rise. Now it’s reached full height and the facade is on. This 10-story building should have nine units, according to DOB permits from a long time ago. But nothing is on the market yet. For such a tall sliver of a building, this one doesn’t look as bad as we had feared. Think it’ll go rental or condo? Check out a full-on vertical shot after the jump.

  • I’ll agree with the “doesn’t look as bad as we had feared” opinion. Oddly, most prior developers on 4th Ave have tried to be creative with designs and ended up with awkward looking buildings, or outright hideous facades. Being a narrow building, this architect went with a sort of nondescript, plain brick facade, but the banks of windows (rather than the standard 3 or 4 bays) give this an industrial look that fits in rather well with the neighborhood. And the green windows are a nice, aesthetic touch. True, it’s a bit taller than the neighbors, but it still seems to blend in. Some may quibble, but I’m one of the neighbors that has to look at it, and I think it’s an okay addition to the neighborhood.

  • Anyone know who the developer is? Have they done anything else in the neighborhood?
