A reader passed along the sad news that longstanding Atlantic Avenue restaurant Fountain Cafe has closed. He says, “It was there since forever, from the original very tacky showerhead in the middle of a fake fountain to a very recent renovation this past year that made it into a fancier nice tablecloth restaurant. A nearby restaurant said it closed because the son(s?) didn’t want to take over and the father/owner was old, but it was just renovated so this doesn’t make sense. The food was always delish.” We wonder if this has any impact on the in-progress storefront in the basement space of the building, which was going to be a reincarnation of Near East Pita Bakery. Anybody know more details? GMAP
