NY1 has a progress report on Atlantic Yards in which developer Bruce Ratner gives status updates on the arena and the mega-project’s first residential tower. Ratner says Barclays Center is supposed to be finished by next summer and the first tower is “scheduled to break ground by January” but the “timetable for the rest” of the project depends on the market. There’s no word in the report on whether a modular design is still being considered for the 400-unit building, which will include affordable housing. The Times reported in March that the developer is obligated to begin excavation on the tower by May 2013 “or pay up to $5 million in penalties for every year it falls behind.”
