BoCoCa Land beat us to the punch on this one, but we just spotted a sign for a ‘Burger Barn’ coming to 240 Court Street, the old Peking 2 take-out spot between Baltic and Kane. The sign also promises drinks and snacks, and apparently the burgers will be organic. Excited? GMAP

  1. ‘organic’ is not an empty word, 11217– its a legal standard that means something, and is heavily regulated. It has a broader standrad than prohibiting most pesticides and growth hormones- it also restricts certain farming practices that are integral part of factory farming (the biggest ecological issue with factory farming is actually run-off from concentrated animal waste). It is significantly more expensive to produce organic food. Whether or not is has value to either your health or the environment is another matter, but it cannot be dismissed as a ‘marketing ploy.’

  2. I’m here Gem and quite honestly I think this place is doomed.

    Burger Barn?

Um, no. Tons of good burgers over in that area, already. If your main marketing tool is organic, you’ve come to the wrong place to open your business because most people in the yuppie areas of Brooklyn know that’s a marketing ploy and an empty word which means next to nothing.

    Frownstoners UNITE!

  3. I love beets so Borscht Cafe, get here!

As long as they don’t add sugar.

  4. What a concept: a restaurant based around hamburgers! What will they think of next, cupcakes?.

My prediction: next big trend is borscht. What, a guy’s gotta have a dream.

  5. Everything in the downtown sphere of influence is overpriced. It’ll probably go out of business in a few months.

Best of luck if they’re priced accordingly though.
