It’s been almost two years since we broke the news of a planned mixed-use development on the south side of Myrtle between Nostrand and Marcy. The project, which was being spearheaded by the Northeast Brooklyn Housing Development Corporation, was supposed to be constructing 88 units of residential housing on top of 14,000 square feet of commercial space. Unfortunately, the city-owned lots are still sitting vacant and not a single filing has been made with the Department of Buildings. Meanwhile, after a Stop Work Order this spring, the Scarano-designed project at 756 Myrtle is moving along again. New photo on the jump.

So, on this lot there won’t be affordable units?

  2. I know it doesn’t look like a lot has been going on, but in the past month they’ve really cleaned up that lot. To the east of the church there was a flat fix business with two mangy dogs. The flat fix has moved to Marcy Avenue, and the “building” (using the term loosely) that it occupied on Myrtle has been leveled. There was so much trash in that lot! It took them several weeks to haul it away. I certainly hope that the development will move forward. The affordable housing part of the development, located on the next block east, looks to be completed, so hopefully the market rate unaffordable units will be built soon.

  3. well, right next to (east of) 756 myrtle, construction on a small 3 or 4 story building has started a number of weeks ago, and further down at the other (eastern) end of the lot, they took down whatever that hodgepodge of ‘church’ and car junkyard was. time will tell, i guess, but this lot is almost directly next to the myrtle/willoughby g train stop – thankfully, it ain’t park slope, but given the incredible amount of activity on spencer just south of myrtle, things certainly are happening around here…
