This Week: Back to Nature.

56 Legett Road, Stone Ridge: $675,000

We chose this week’s properties based not only on the aesthetics of the house itself, but how well the house melds with its environment. All three are in rural areas of Ulster County, and each property is augmented and enhanced by the natural landscape, making them more appealing than they might be on their own. And that’s saying a lot, because they’re pretty great on their own.

53 Legett Road, Stone Ridge

The pictures included with the listing feature mostly its surroundings, and it’s not hard to see why. The six acres upon which it sits are some of the loveliest in Ulster County, in the hamlet of Stone Ridge, a quiet, slow community in the town of Marbletown that consists of lots of farmland. And, of course, the house comes with a porch swing.

Beds: 5; Baths: 2; Square feet: 2,143; Taxes: $8,177; Distance from Brooklyn: 2 hrs, 10 mins.

125-133 Main Street, High Falls, NY

We imagine our grandmother seeing this house and calling it, “as pretty as a postcard.” Ah, Grandma. You’re so right, and just like you, we love its flowery front yard and two green acres. And we especially love that it includes its own 2,700 square foot studio — a wonderful live-work space.

Beds: 4; Baths: 3.5; Square Feet: 3,300 for house, 2,700 for studio; Taxes: $9,253; Distance from Brooklyn: 2 hrs, 4 mins.

1028 Albany Post Road, Gardiner, NY: $299,000

Gardiner is a hamlet located just beyond the outskirts of New Paltz, one of our favorite places to go house-ogling. The lot size is small compared to the others above (just half an acre), but it’s right on the Shawangunk Kill. We adore that you can see nature peeking in through the back door in the kitchen. Makes us long for sultry, shoe-less summer days.

Beds: 3; Baths: 2; Square Feet: 1,650; Taxes: $5,247; Distance from Brooklyn: 1 hr, 56 mins.
