If you want to revel in some Halloween fun while soaking fall colors and gazing upon a Gilded Age mansion, you may want to check out a pumpkin extravaganza on the grounds of the impressive Naumkeag. The 1880s Shingle-style house was designed by McKim, Mead & White and is set within 48-acres in Stockbridge, Mass.

While it was designed as a summer retreat, the grounds are transformed for the ghoulish season for the annual Naumkeag Pumpkin Show. Winding pathways take visitors past over 1,500 jack-o-lanterns, spookily lit trees, and other seasonal installations. There are plenty of pumpkins and gourds that were grown on site, but only a handful of the carved pumpkins are real. To last the season, most are artificial pumpkins impressively carved by staff members in a range of themes from woodland creatures to superheroes. Last year the tour included a few spookily outfitted rooms on the first floor of the house.

The installation does require some hiking up stairs, including the iconic Blue Steps, and across uneven ground so it is difficult for guests with limited mobility. Strollers and wagons are not permitted on the trail. Early-hour tickets are available for those who prefer a less crowded experience with a bit less of a sensory overload.

Ticket sales have already kicked off and the popular event tends to sell out quickly. It runs from September 30 through October 29. Prices range depending on the day of your visit, from $25 to $30 for adults. For children from 2 to 12, tickets are $12. Lower ticket prices are available for all tours for members of The Trustees, which manages the historic site. For more information, visit the event page online.
