Talented designers of the Hudson Valley will have their work on view again this fall with the return of the Kingston Design Showhouse and the transformation of another historic property.

The annual showhouse is hosted by Kingston Design Connection, a network for Hudson Valley area creatives founded by designer Maryline Damour of Damour Drake after she moved from Brooklyn to Kingston.

Last year, in a collaboration with the Kingston City Land Bank, the showhouse focused on affordability for a long-term resident. A modest 19th century front-gable brick house was renovated and sold at below market value to an eligible buyer after the design intervention.

This year’s project continues the housing dialogue with the selection of a commercial property that was purchased by a first-time homeowner and will be returned to residential use. While the house at 60 Maiden Lane was home to local businesses for decades it didn’t start out as a commercial property. The substantial home was constructed as a single-family dwelling in the early 20th century. A historic photo from the 1950s shows the dormer, front and side angled bays and the original Colonial Revival-style columned porch.

Despite the loss of the front porch and a recladding with vinyl siding, the massing of the house is largely intact and “before” shots of the interior show stained glass, woodwork and mantels survived the years of commercial use. The exterior of the house and the landscape will get a facelift along with the interiors of multiple rooms on the first and second floors of the house.

The designers chosen this year include BNR Interiors, Brooke Cotter, Quittner x Worth Preserving, Michael Gilbride Design, Creatures of Place, E. L’Alease & Co., Hendley & Co., Simone Eisold Design, Hinterland, Unlimited Metalwork, Chris Bick & Buddy Valentine and Christian Cruz.

Visitors will be able to get a look at their creative choices on weekends from October 7 to 23.
