Fridays at 11, Brownstoner Upstate brings you a selection of properties within three hours north, and a little east or west, of New York City.
Here’s a little something for those of us who are afraid of commitment (and property taxes): Four lovely rental properties, all in Ulster County, none exceeding $1,600 a month. And that $1,600 one…well, just you’ll see. You’re in for a treat. Today, we’ll be in Shandaken, New Paltz and Saugerties, enjoying the best the rental market has to offer around these areas.
Located in the northern part of the county, the town of Shandaken is situated within the Catskills along the Esopus Creek, roughly halfway between Fleischmanns (Delaware County) and Phoenicia. It has loads of rural and natural appeal, and folks value their privacy out in those parts. And privacy is most likely what you’ll get in this two-bedroom, one-bath country house. You’ll also get eight acres, a stream running through the property, and an adorable little outbuilding with red doors. Beds: 2. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 1,096. Lot Size: 8.45 acres.
Some people might not be too keen on living in the same house as the landlord, like you would if you lived in this contemporary in New Paltz, but if something breaks, at least they’re convenient. It’s located on three acres of land, which means privacy for both you and your landlord, and we love all of the windows letting in the outdoors. The living room and kitchen are combined into one large room. Nice bonus: All utilities included. Beds: 1. Baths: 1.
Hm, 252 square feet for $750 a month? We’re not sure we could do it, and we know we could not occupy this space with another human being. But it is adorable, and we’re familiar with the pretty stone house next door. We wonder what the deal is with the kitchen, because the pictures make it seem like it has naught but a sink. The address says New Paltz, but it’s more like Gardiner. Beds: 0. Baths: 1. Square Feet: 252. Lot Size: 2 acres.
We were hard pressed to find a more perfect rental property than this house located halfway between Saugerties and Woodstock . Our favorite features are the brick fireplace, ceiling beams, French doors, sun room, kitchen…okay, pretty much every aspect of the house. The backyard looks out onto an idyllic, rolling meadow vista. Oh, and it comes furnished. Beds: 3. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 2,094. Lot Size: .41 acre.
