Our bargain-hunting continues this week even more properties for $200,000 or less. This week, we’ll be in Ulster County, Greene County, and all the way up in Rensselaer County (just kidding, it’s less than three hours from Brooklyn).
Antiquity enthusiasts, this one’s for you: A 125-year old farmhouse with many original features. It clearly needs some polishing up, but if you’re not seeing the potential for a real restoration, you need to get your eyes checked. We know the little hamlet of Malden-on-Hudson quite well. Located just a minute or two outside of Saugerties village, the neighborhood of Malden is on the Hudson and provides direct access to the river at the local waterfront park and boat launch. Sadly, not much land comes with it. Beds: 2. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 1218. Lot Size: .11 acres. Est. Taxes: $4407. Distance from Brooklyn: 2 hours, 8 minutes.

Here’s one that’s a bit more turnkey in Kerhonkson, Ulster County. The listing refers to it as a 1900s farmhouse, but it’s been completely gutted and updated inside so it looks…well, nothing at all like a turn-of-the-century farmhouse. Even so, it sits on nearly an acre in the small hamlet of Kerhonkson, which is located about 25 minutes west of New Paltz. Plenty of space for a family with lots of yard to play in. Beds: 4. Baths: 2.5. Square Feet: 2192. Lot Size: .8 acres. Est. Taxes: $3672. Distance from Brooklyn: 2 hours, 7 mins.

Two mailboxes near the front door is a dead giveaway that this isn’t set up as a single-family home, but that doesn’t mean this cutie in the village of Catskill couldn’t be converted back. It’s located in a residential neighborhood sandwiched between the Catskill Creek and the Hudson River next door to a cemetery (at least the neighbors are quiet, right?). Walking distance from Main Street businesses. Beds: 3. Baths: 2. Square Feet: 2208. Lot Size: .07 acres. Est. Taxes: $4516. Distance from Brooklyn: 2 hours, 17 mins.

Castleton-on-Hudson is a village up in Rensselaer County on the east side of the Hudson, just south of Albany. Right now, housing stock is cheap and, like this brick farmhouse, attractive, and we suggest keeping an eye on this community as the popularity of upstate New York continues to spread further north. We adore the plank flooring inside, and the property sits on an acre and a half of land just outside of Castleton in Schodack. Includes a storage shed and a detached two-car garage. Beds: 3. Baths: 2.5. Square Feet: 2148. Lot Size: 1.46 acres. Est. Taxes: $6900.
