Vanderbilt Ave Street Tree Care Event
The Prospect Heights Street Tree Task Force has accepted the invitation of the Vanderbilt Avenue Merchants Association to work with the merchants to enhance the health, vitality and beauty of our Vanderbilt Avenue street trees. Volunteers will aerate, fertilize and mulch the tree pits and prune tree branches on Vanderbilt Avenue. In return, we only request our merchants to keep their tree pits free of garbage and to water the trees on a regular basis. Saturday, 10am-1pm, SE Corner of Vanderbilt and St. Marks Avenues.
Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg
On Saturday, the Flea is held at 176 Lafayette Ave. (between Clermont + Vanderbilt Avenues) in Fort Greene. Smorgasburg is also held Saturday at our Williamsburg vacation. And on Sunday, we’re back in Wiliamsburg, with the Flea at 27 North 6th Street (between Kent Avenue + East River). Funk Under the BQE
Our friends at Sing for Hope placed a baby grand under the BQE at Park and Washington this week as part of their “Pop-Up Pianos” project, which seems like a good enough reason to throw a party to us! We’ve invited High and Mighty Brass Band to bring their New Orleans-style funk and R&B, the folks from Do Tank Brooklyn will be working their public space magic to create a temporary viewing area, and Fresh Fanatic will bring out some tasty snacks. Bring the whole family – we’ll have some hula hoops and street chalk on hand for the kiddos. Friday, 6-8pm.
Rhythm Revue with Felix Hernandez
WBGO’s Felix Hernandez will heat up Grand Army Plaza with a FREE Rhythm Revue dance party on Saturday June 25! One of WBGO’s most popular hosts and a Brooklynite himself, Hernandez is a preeminent DJ and soul aficionado, known for his sold-out dances throughout the metro area. Saturday, 4-7pm, free.
