house
Did anyone else make it to the open house at 128 Clinton Avenue yesterday? Despite the interrogation we were put through at the door, we made it by undetected and got to poke around relatively undisturbed by the tag-team of agents manning this showing. The house has gorgeous bones obviously and the double wide lot and converted garage in the rear (where someone, maybe the owner, was playing the grand piano as a soundtrack to the open house experience) are serious bonuses, but we have to say that aspects of the renovation–such as the painted ceiling in the dining room–were a bit much. The renovation of the basement apartment was particular unattractive. We didn’t mind the fact that the house was located on the far side of Myrtle, mostly because it’s next to the stunning Greek Revival house pictured on the jump. All out bitching and moaning aside, though, it is a very special house–we’ll be interested to see how close to the asking price of $2.1 million it fetches.

  1. i was at the open house, and i was told the owner was a well known opera director, which explains the over the top thing everyone is talking about.
anyway, the house is gorgeous, and you can always take down the over the top decors once you have it. it’s up to how you digest the house for yourself. by the way, the greek revival one has awful 3 front windows that are blocked by whatever the triagle front head thing. it must be so dark inside.

  2. I used A&H at 4% and I think they were great, I sense a lot of jealousy towards this firm. I intervied about 4 other firms, and brooklyn properties came in with the lowest comission. I felt that A&H really new their stuff they sold my house on 8th Street in about 3 weeks at above asking.

  3. Having dealt with A&H first as a potential buyer and now as a fellow broker, I agree with the comments on this page. They are the worst. They offer low commissions because they wouldn’t be able to get listings otherwise. And won’t co-broke because they take such low commisions. One of the principals asked a friend who was interested in one of their listings for cash under the table to guarantee a house. Highly unethical.

  4. Not a fan of A&H but then again I work for the competition. I must defend their grilling people as they walk in the door in this case. If the house is an exceptional property (at least they must think so). The questions should enable them to weed the Sunday “curious open housers” out from the serious buyers. This would allow them to focus on the serious buyers and possibly deter the “just curious” folks from proceeding.

  5. Isaac, do you work for them? From the little insider info I possess from the real estate world, I have heard only near-awful things about A&H. And my personal dealings with them is far from rosy. Once the market slows down I think AH will go down with it. It did well only because of this crazy market. And, btw, I am not a broker. Just a normal person looking to buy a house.
